Tobacco Solutions Program Components
Effective Marketing Support
All marketing materials required for effective communication with program constituents are provided, including: sample brochures, posters, newsletters, web-based services, and employer-based marketing kits.
Comprehensive MIS System
A complete MIS program for tracking, administration, reporting and evaluation that allows for daily maintenance of client information, production of quarterly and impromptu reports, user-friendly client queries for intake information, prescription activity, phone coach calls, mailing records, and evaluation is available for each plan.
Professional Phone Coaches and Staff
Over 40 professionally trained phone coaches are employed by beBetter Networks. Each coach receives over 70 hours of tobacco intervention training with specialized focus on spit-tobacco users, pregnant women, teens, low-literacy levels, stress, weight issues, and pharmaceutical therapies.
The Tobacco Solutions administrative staff focuses on offering the most effective tobacco cessation services in the country. Each health plan or employer group will be assigned a dedicated Tobacco Solutions project manager to assist them with all aspects of program delivery and operations.
Multi-faceted Cessation Approach
The Tobacco Solutions Program uses a multi-faceted approach to providing tobacco cessation services. Various tools and mediums are incorporated based on the individual client's needs. For example, if an enrollee is an expectant mother, her quit kit will include information specific to her status such as addressing the future health of her baby. For those individuals who would like to receive counseling and support online rather than over the phone, the customized Miavita website www.smokefreeprogram.com offers a range of unique products and services developed specifically for that population.
Home Delivery of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT's)
beBetter Networks can process, deliver and track requests for nicotine patches directly to the enrollee's home, allowing for enhanced control and effectiveness of use, convenience for members, and lower cost for sponsoring plans. Click here to visit our online store.
Effective Evaluation
As discussed above, our comprehensive MIS system affords us with a high degree of customization and utility regarding all aspects of process and outcome evaluation and reporting. Virtually any aspect of the program can be tracked, evaluated, and reported. This includes quit attempts, success rates, participant satisfaction, marketing effectiveness, prescription activity, and physician support. The flexibility and thoroughness of our reporting systems is a great aid for HEDIS and NCQA measures.
Delivery Model
Epidemiologic data suggests that over 70 percent of the 50 million or more smokers in the United States today have made at least one prior quit attempt and approximately 46 percent try to quit each year (CDC, 1995). Unfortunately, most of these efforts are unsuccessful; among the 17 million adults who attempted cessation in 1991, only 7 percent were still abstinent 12 months later (CDC, 1994). Fortunately, as stated earlier, the tools and methods of effective cessation are growing each year and our model is averaging long-term success rates of over 30 percent. Although there are numerous intervention or delivery models that can be effectively enacted in a managed care setting, the fundamental elements of success of any approach is the combination of effective behavioral counseling and pharmaceutical support.
The Tobacco Solutions Program builds on both of these essential success factors while offering a variety of individually customized delivery options within a 'Population Health Management' framework.
