The Tobacco Solutions Delivery Model
Epidemiological data from the CDC suggests that more than 80 percent of the 50 million or more smokers in the U.S. today have made at least one prior quit attempt and approximately 56 percent try to quit each year. There is little doubt that most tobacco users want to quit; the question is how can they be helped?
Over the past five years in particular there have been numerous research studies that looked at what works and what's not so successful in helping people achieve long term tobacco abstinence. Today we understand that different people are at different "stages of change" (Prochaska) or readiness to quit and that effective interventions target materials and support based on each individual's readiness. We also understand that a program must offer a wide variety of support outlets and methods of delivery. The program must understand much about the individual - readiness, schedules, and communication preference (phone, mail, or Internet). Support must be available when and where people need it.
Finally, we also have a much greater appreciation and understanding of the chemically addictive nature of nicotine. According to the U.S. Public Health Service, nicotine can be as strong an addiction as cocaine or heroin. Experts believe that nicotine addiction should be treated as a chronic rather than acute disease. To that end, effective programs need to address nicotine withdrawal therapy through effective pharmaceutical support.
Tobacco Solutions addresses all of these issues with the comprehensive, flexible, and customized delivery model. Below is an example of our standard mode.
